Santon seen as Fenerbahce target
Sunday 30th May
Embed from Getty ImagesRoma have been busy at work reducing their wage bill by releasing some players, but the real task will come in trying to sell fringe players with no future at the club.
It seems Davide Santon is one of these, despite his previous good relationship with Jose Mourinho. According to Il Tempo, the full-back is attracting interest from Fenerbahce, where he could reunite with Diego Perotti.
Lille look at Lopez
Sunday 30th May
Embed from Getty ImagesIf Roma pursue a new goalkeeper this summer, then Pau Lopez will need to leave. It may be hard to find a buyer for the Spaniard, who is currently injured, at the price Roma would want to receive, but there is interest in him.
For example, AS Roma Live claim that Lille are interested in Lopez. The Ligue 1 champions have just lost Mike Maignan to AC Milan and need to find a replacement.
They have lodged their interest in Lopez, but will wait to see how he recovers from his shoulder injury before deciding whether to bid.

Sunday 30th May
Embed from Getty ImagesIn Roma’s extensive search for a new striker, another name has emerged: Joao Klauss.
He is a 24-year-old Brazilian with an Italian passport, who finished the season on loan at Standard Liege from Hoffenheim.
Reports in his native country suggest he could be an option for Roma.
Roma in pole for Tavares
Saturday 29th May
Embed from Getty ImagesRoma may need a new left-back to compete with Leonardo Spinazzola if it is deemed that Riccardo Calafiori still isn’t quite ready.
Nuno Tavares of Benfica is one of the main options for that role, as he is likely to leave the Portuguese club. And according to Nicolo Schira, Roma currently lead Villarreal and two unnamed English clubs in the race to sign him.

Xhaka links intensify
Friday 28th May
Embed from Getty ImagesIt seems there is definitely something in Roma’s links with Granit Xhaka, which have increased further today.
Corriere Dello Sport report that the Arsenal midfielder wants to join Roma after Blick in Switzerland claimed the deal could be completed before Euro 2020.
It is speculated that €18m might get the deal done.
Mourinho makes contact with Ronaldo?
Friday 28th May
Embed from Getty ImagesRemember the other day when Radio Radio linked Roma with Cristiano Ronaldo? Well now La Stampa are at it as well, claiming ex-Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has been in touch with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to check on his situation.
It still seems scarcely believable that Roma could afford his salary even if he reduced what he earns at Juventus drastically. But Ronaldo looks likely to leave the Turin giants and it’s interesting to see another source linking him with Roma.
Regardless, this would be even more surprising than Mourinho coming if it was to happen.

Thursday 27th May
Embed from Getty ImagesOne of Roma’s main midfield targets, Teun Koopmeiners, has given an update on his future – and it sounds promising.
The AZ captain has told NOS that things are “going in the right direction” with regards to a move to Roma.

Mourinho eyes Skriniar signing
Thursday 27th May
Embed from Getty ImagesAll is not well at Inter just weeks after they won the Scudetto. In financial crisis, they have parted company with coach Antonio Conte and now need to raise funds by selling players.
That could lead to opportunities in the market for other clubs and, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Roma are now looking at their defender Milan Skriniar.
Mourinho has previously tried to sign the centre-back for Manchester United and Tottenham, without any luck. Now, the situation has changed, so there may be some hope.
However, Skriniar would still likely be an expensive player to pursue.
Xhaka a target for Roma
Thursday 27th May
Embed from Getty ImagesAfter yesterday’s news that Roma had cooled their interest in Nemanja Matic, a new midfield target has emerged.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka is a top target under the instruction of Jose Mourinho.
Arsenal want to receive €25m for Xhaka, a fee Roma want to lower, but the club will try to negotiate with the player in the meantime.
Three-name shortlist for midfield as Matic links fade
Wednesday 26th May
Embed from Getty ImagesIt seems Roma will try to sign one midfielder this summer, and the name of Nemanja Matic had been suggested due to his prior relationship with Jose Mourinho.
However, Tuttomercatoweb report that the Serbian wants a salary of €7m, which would be too high for Roma, who will therefore have to turn to alternatives.
The main name on their list is Marcel Sabitzer, who is mentioned as part of a three-man shortlist by Gazzetta Dello Sport. Roma are already dealing with RB Leipzig over the sale of Justin Kluivert, so could ask for Sabitzer in the opposite direction.
Alternatively, Spezia’s Giulio Maggiore and AZ’s Teun Koopmeiners are also under consideration.
Ibanez to be replaced by Bailly?
Wednesday 26th May
Embed from Getty ImagesAccording to Gazzetta Dello Sport, two of the players who could leave Roma this summer are Amadou Diawara – who has suffered a decline in form – and Roger Ibanez, who could be sold for a big profit.
In the event that Ibanez leaves, Roma would look for a leader at the back to replace him. The name of Eric Bailly is put forward after he recently reminded everyone of his good relationship with Jose Mourinho, even though he only recently signed a new contract with Manchester United.
Areola on agenda for goalkeeper role
Wednesday 26th May
Embed from Getty ImagesOne of the key negotiations that will take place for Roma this summer is that of deciding if Henrikh Mkhitaryan agrees to a new contract. In those talks with his agent Mino Raiola, another player could come into the picture.
According to Corriere Dello Sport, Raiola will offer Roma the chance to sign Alphonse Areola, who has just spent the season on loan at Fulham from Paris Saint-Germain. The goalkeeper will be looking for a new permanent home and Roma could be a suitor.
Cristante wanted by Fiorentina
Wednesday 26th May
Embed from Getty ImagesHe was one of Roma’s most-used players under Paulo Fonseca, but Bryan Cristante’s future under Jose Mourinho remains unclear.
According to Leggo, the midfielder has emerged as a target for Fiorentina following their appointment of Gennaro Gattuso.
Roma would have to ask for at least €25m for his signature given how much they originally spent on him. Cristante remains under contract until 2024.
Roma revive Gray interest
Wednesday 26th May
Embed from Getty ImagesRoma may need to add more options out wide if Jose Mourinho changes the system to a 4-2-3-1 as expected. One example could be Demarai Gray, who appears to be back on their radar.
Roma were linked with the English winger when he was leaving Leicester, but Bayer Leverkusen signed him instead. That move hasn’t quite gone to plan and therefore Gray could be on the move again.
According to Sky Sports in Germany, Roma remain interested in Gray, who has a release clause of just €2m.
Belotti bid takes shape
Tuesday 25th May
Embed from Getty ImagesOne of Roma’s main striker targets if Edin Dzeko leaves is Andrea Belotti, who has served Torino for many years. He may have left it too late to make the step up to a bigger club, but it seems he still has plenty of suitors.
Roma are among them and, according to Sky Sport, are preparing an initial offer of €15m for the 27-year-old.
Belotti is out of contract next summer, so could be available for a relatively cheap fee.
Kluivert could stay with Leipzig
Tuesday 25th May
Embed from Getty ImagesOf the players out on loan from Roma this season, one who could have a future at the club is Justin Kluivert, due to his positive relationship with Mourinho.
However, it seems he is seriously considering remaining with RB Leipzig, where he has been this season.
Gazzetta Dello Sport claim that the Bundesliga side are ready to make a €12m bid to sign the Dutchman permanently.
Roma hoping for Hazard loan
Tuesday 25th May
Embed from Getty ImagesThere have already been some outlandish names linked with Roma to go with the more realistic, but let’s start with a big one.
According to Leggo, Roma would like to sign Eden Hazard on loan from Real Madrid.
The winger’s move to Madrid has not worked out due to various injury issues, but he was previously one of the best players in the Premier League – and perhaps world – at Chelsea.
With Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s future looking like it might be away from Roma, the club will need a replacement and Hazard would certainly be a high-profile one. They would need Madrid to cover some of his wages, but with the Belgian seeking a fresh start, it would be incredible if that was in Rome.
He has, of course, played under Jose Mourinho before for Chelsea. It seems unlikely they could reunite at Roma for now, but it could be worth keeping an eye out.
Transfer window preview
Tuesday 25th May
Embed from Getty ImagesWith the season now over, Roma can turn their attention to what will be a busy summer.
First of all, they must clear out some of the players Jose Mourinho will not need. Antonio Mirante, Juan Jesus and Bruno Peres are all out of contract and are likely to leave, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan must make a decision about his future.
There has also been speculation that Edin Dzeko could depart one year before the end of his contract, potentially to the MLS with LA Galaxy.
Roma will have to replace the striker if he does leave and they have been linked with a number of players in that role, such as Andrea Belotti or Dusan Vlahovic.
In other areas, Mourinho may look for reinforcements he has worked with before at other clubs. Nemanja Matic from Manchester United seems to be a popular name for the midfield, for example. However, he could opt for someone new like compatriot Renato Sanches instead or as well.
A new goalkeeper could also be on the agenda to usurp Pau Lopez as number one or replace Mirante as a backup. Another Portuguese national, Rui Patricio of Wolves, seems to be the main name in contention there.
But just as the appointment of Mourinho was unexpected, there could be plenty of surprises in store.
