One of Roma’s top left-back targets is Ramy Bensebaini of Borussia Monchengladbach. According to Sky Sport, he seems to have become the main focus there, despite a €30m asking price.

There are cheaper targets available, so Roma will reflect and make a decision by Wednesday.

Hinteregger linked

According to Corriere Dello Sport and Gazzetta Dello Sport, Roma have identified Martin Hinteregger as a defensive target.

There he is above challenging Ciro Immobile, so he’s in the good books already.

A left-footed centre-back, the Austrian would bring experience to the defence if Roma can fend off competition from the Premier League. Given his value is above €20m, a loan would have to be the formula, whereas some English clubs could afford to buy him now.

Mancini admired by Chelsea amid Zouma links

Whenever a player is linked with a club, it does not take long for other rumours to crop up of someone else going in the opposite direction.

Roma were recently revealed to be keen on Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma, and Tuttomercatoweb now claim that the Blues like Gianluca Mancini in return.

Mancini was Roma’s best defender in 2020-21, so would not be let go of easily. A price tag of €30m has been suggested – which seems slightly on the low side.

Mykolenko makes way onto left-back list

After being involved at Euro 2020 for Ukraine, Vitalij Mykolenko has become the latest left-back to come under consideration for Roma.

Born in 1999, he would be a long-term option, but has already shown promise in his career and therefore Il Romanista believe he is on Roma’s shortlist.

Roma still in Belotti battle

Edin Dzeko and Borja Mayoral have both begun pre-season training with Roma, but the club continue to be linked with a new striker.

It has become less of a priority, but remains an area that could be reinforced. As such, Andrea Belotti of Torino is still on the agenda.

According to Sky Sport, Roma are still looking at the Italy international as Torino plot a sale one year before his contract ends. The problem is the price tag: €40m.

Patricio deal done?

Other than that of Granit Xhaka, no Roma transfer saga has been rumbling on like Rui Patricio’s potential transfer to the club.

Agent Jorge Mendes arrived in the capital yesterday, by all accounts, to seal the deal. It appears his trip has been successful, as Calciomercato.it say the deal is now done.

Although there has been no announcement, Roma will sign the Wolves keeper for around €10m and he will commit to a three-year contract.

Alioski becomes top target

There’s a sentence that was unthinkable to see in connection to Roma, but here we are.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Ezgjan Alioski is the club’s main target to strengthen at left-back following his release from Leeds United.

The North Macedonia international recently emerged as a potential solution to fill the void left by Leonardo Spinazzola following his injury. The links have quickly increased and Alioski is now apparently top of a list that also includes Patrick Van Aanholt, Wendell, Federico Dimarco, Marcos Alonso, Cristiano Biraghi and Ramy Bensebaini

Zouma and Mourinho to reunite?

It has been a while since Mourinho was linked to one of his former players for Roma, but an update of the sort has now arrived.

According to Telefoot, Roma could seek to reunite their new coach with centre-back Kurt Zouma, still on the books at Chelsea.

They would have to beat competition from Everton and Tottenham, but a loan deal could be possible.

Mourinho rivals Tottenham for Vestergaard

One name who has been in the background of Roma’s hunt for a new defender is Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard. Just one year remains on his contract with the South Coast club, who may therefore sell him.

Tottenham have supposedly opened talks, but according to The Athletic, Jose Mourinho wants to rival his former employers by getting Roma to move for the Denmark international.

Vestergaard would prefer to stay in the Premier League, though.

Lopez leaving for Ligue 1

The final hurdles have been overcome; Pau Lopez is leaving Roma.

The goalkeeper has been in France to negotiate with Marseille and despite returning to Rome to complete his rehabilitation from injury, an agreement in principle has now been announced by the Ligue 1 outfit to take him on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

Lopez will thus depart after two seasons in Italy.

No Ramos for Roma

It was fun to dream a little while it lasted, but Sergio Ramos will not be joining Roma.

Jose Mourinho denied at his first Roma press conference that he had been in contact with any players from other clubs, with Ramos one of the those named.

In fact, the Real Madrid legend has officially signed with Paris Saint-Germain today.

Perhaps another surprise will be in store in Roma’s pursuit for a defender.

Alioski linked with Roma

True to the Giallorossi Yorkshire niche, Roma have now been linked with Ezgjan Alioski following his exit from Leeds United.

The North Macedonia international has reached the end of his contract with the club not too far from where this site is based, and could take on a new challenge with the club not too far from where this site is writing about.

According to Il Tempo, Roma could look at taking the versatile former Leeds man on a free transfer. In fact, talks are already underway with his entourage.

One of the options to emerge in Roma’s left-back hunt recently was Ramy Bensebaini. The Algerian now seems to be moving up the shortlist after ReteSport and Gazzetta Dello Sport both backed up the interest in the Borussia Monchengladbach man.

Valued at €20m, he could arrive on loan with an obligation to buy, as per Gazzetta.

The pink paper also claims any attempts by other clubs to take Riccardo Calafiori on loan will be blocked.

Roma made Mendy request

The search for a new left-back goes on after the injury to Leonardo Spinazzola. According to Il Romanista, Roma made an approach to Manchester City about taking Benjamin Mendy, who has struggled with his own injuries in recent years, on loan.

However, Mendy’s salary is seemingly out of reach. Therefore, alternatives remain, such as Federico Dimarco, Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso.

Roma need experience at centre-back and were recently linked with Jerome Boateng to fulfil that requirement.

Such talk went quiet even after he was released by Bayern Munich at the end of June, but it has now reignited.

According to SportItalia journalist Rudy Galetti, Roma are in a two-way battle with Monaco for the free transfer of the 2014 World Cup winner and both clubs have submitted offers.

Grimaldo and Reinildo join left-back list

Roma are searching far and wide for a Leonardo Spinazzola replacement after he underwent surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon.

Two more names have now joined the shortlist: Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo, as per Sky Sport, and Lille’s Reinildo, as per BeFoot.

Grimaldo’s contract runs until 2023 and Reinildo’s until 2022.

Mourinho gets his gift

In his welcome interview with Roma, Jose Mourinho said he was waiting for some gifts as pre-season dawned.

It looks like the first is about to arrive, as Corriere Dello Sport report that an agreement has been found with Wolves for the signing of Rui Patricio.

The experienced goalkeeper is due imminently for his medicals and the signing of his contract.

Roma may move for Maehle

One of the breakout stars of Euro 2020 has been Denmark wing-back Joakim Maehle, who has built upon the promising start to his Serie A career since joining Atalanta.

Roma are in need of a new full-back and have now, according to Tuttomercatoweb, put Maehle on the shortlist.

According to Il Secolo XIX, two Sampdoria players have emerged onto Roma’s radar.

The first is left-back Tommaso Augello, who earned a key role under ex-Giallorossi boss Claudio Ranieri and could help fill an obvious position of need.

In addition, glances have been cast towards Denmark winger Mikkel Damsgaard, who has also attracted Juventus and both Milan clubs.

  3. It is pleasing to learn that Tammy is joining AS ROMA. This means now Jose Mourinho has a formidable and dependable striker In Tammy Abrahams. Personally I have a lot faith, respect and admiration for a young determined English striker. He is an asset to any club. ROMA AS are luck to sign such a an exciting striker

  4. This is a rebuilding process, many more changes might be needed to make @As Roma ready to win trophies. Though, with Jose Mourinho, things will get better this season and trophies should start coming from next season. Hala Roma!
