Roma transfer news blog: All the mid-season rumours in one place

Freuler features on midfield shortlist

Sunday 14th November

Atalanta have been one of the success stories of Serie A in recent years and some of their players have subsequently joined more traditional forces. Roma, for example, have taken Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante from them – now the two main vice-captains behind Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Another Atalanta man could follow after Corriere Dello Sport reported that Remo Freuler is now under consideration for a transfer.

Roma need to rectify their issues in midfield and Freuler could be a decent opportunity, given that he is out of contract at the end of the season and has Serie A experience.

Dalot becomes concrete objective

Saturday 13th November

There have been a few links between Roma and Diogo Dalot in recent weeks but they now seem to be accelerating.

Jose Mourinho previously signed the right-back for Manchester United and could do so for Roma too. He would provide better competition for Rick Karsdorp than Bryan Reynolds.

Corriere Dello Sport confirmed on Friday that Dalot is a concrete track for Roma in the market. Il Tempo also had their own information, claiming Roma are convinced the ex-Milan loanee would be a good signing.

Again, they may have to take him on loan with an option to buy, as confirmed in an update from Corriere Dello Sport on Saturday. It may cost €1.5m up front before an obligatory payment of €15m for a permanent transfer on certain conditions.

Grillistch a new midfielder link

Saturday 13th November

The need for a new midfielder at Roma remains and links with a late summer target have resurfaced.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Roma could look to the Bundesliga to try and sign Florian Grillitsch from Hoffenheim. He would be an alternative target to Denis Zakaria.

Somewhat surprisingly, Corriere Dello Sport have also brought back up the links with top summer target Granit Xhaka, despite him signing a contract extension with Arsenal after the failure to agree a deal for him.

Celik back on right-back list

Thursday 11th November

One of the right-backs linked with Roma over the summer was Zeki Celik of Lille. Nothing materialised, though, and his name fell off the radar of Roma transfer news for a while.

Now, with a player of his position still a priority, Tuttomercatoweb claim the interest has been resurrected.

Atletico Madrid, Tottenham and Fiorentina are also keen on the Turk.

Udinese consider Diawara

Thursday 11th November

It seems hard for Amadou Diawara to convince Jose Mourinho of his role in the Roma team. Therefore, he may be sacrificed to make room for a more consistent midfielder in January.

According to Tutto Udinese, the club covered by that website are considering Diawara as a possible reinforcement. In fact, they are conducting surveys on his signing, as well as an alternative.

Roma linked with Boga

Thursday 11th November

It wasn’t long ago that Jeremie Boga was all the rage in the transfer market. His star has faded in recent months but the winger still has several suitors.

According to Foot Mercato, Roma are among a group of clubs keek on the Sassuolo star. Atalanta, Milan and Napoli are all also interested.

There is a belief that the asking price has dropped to €20m, half of what Sassuolo wanted in the summer.

Nandez the main Zakaria alternative

Wednesday 10th November

The competition for Roma’s main midfield target, Denis Zakaria, is increasing. There is rival interest from Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and the Premier League.

In the event that they miss out, Roma could turn to Nahitan Nandez of Cagliari, as reported by Il Romanista.

Nandez appeals because he can also play at right-back, where Roma are also aiming to strengthen. Furthermore, he is keen to leave Cagliari, so may not be out of reach.

Roma receive Ramsey proposition

Wednesday 10th November

As the search for a new midfielder continues, a new link to emerge is one with Aaron Ramsey.

The former Arsenal midfielder has struggled since joining Juventus, who are aiming to offload him in January.

According to Calciomercato, he has been proposed to Roma, potentially via a loan deal by which they wouldn’t have to pay his full wages.

However, he is not the exact profile of midfielder Roma are looking for, even if Mourinho likes him.

Torino target Kumbulla

Wednesday 10th November

Another suitor has joined the race for Roma defensive misfit Marash Kumbulla. According to Tuttosport, Ivan Juric wants to take him to Torino after previously coaching him for Verona.

Roma target Turkish teenager

Tuesday 9th November

Planning for the future never stops, which is perhaps why Calciomercato.it are linking Roma with teenage defender Taha Altikardes.

The youngster currently plays for Bursaspor in Turkey but is attracting external interest. Roma are apparently scouting the centre-back, who could cost €1.5m.

Bereszynski becomes more prominent target

Tuesday 9th November

Roma are looking for a new right-back alternative to Rick Karsdorp. One of the bigger names – literally – they have been linked with is Bartosz Bereszynski of Sampdoria.

The Pole has Serie A experience and although just one of a number of ideas, he is rising up the shortlist – at least according to Nicolo Schira.

Roma reportedly get on well with the 29-year-old’s agent, who could push for a deal.

Mkhitaryan may depart in January

Tuesday 9th November

Henrikh Mkhitaryan committed to Roma for another season in the summer, but he has already been encountering issues since his reunion with Jose Mourinho.

The attacking midfielder’s role as a starter is under threat from Stephan El Shaarawy and his place in the entire squad may be too.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Mkhitaryan might consider leaving Roma in January if a good offer arrives.
