DONE DEAL: Under is over and out
Sunday 4th July
Roma have got one of their unwanted players off the books, as Cengiz Under has left for Marseille.
Read all the details here.
Biraghi becomes left-back favourite
Sunday 4th July
Embed from Getty ImagesFurther to yesterday’s reports that Cristiano Biraghi was an option to fill the left-back void left by Spinazzola’s injury, Corriere Dello Sport now claim the Fiorentina man is in pole position to make the move to the capital.
Mourinho wants someone ready to be a first-choice all season, thus ruling out Juventus youngster Gianluca Frabotta. Biraghi is much more experienced and may be the man.
Mourinho makes Marcelo call
Sunday 4th July
Embed from Getty ImagesAmong the less likely options for Roma at left-back would be Marcelo of Real Madrid.
According to Nicolo Schira, ex-Blancos boss Jose Mourinho has called the Brazilian to check on his situation as Roma continue their search for a Spinazzola replacement.
However, a deal seems unlikely as Marcelo is set to succeed Sergio Ramos as Madrid captain.
Gosens the dream Spinazzola replacement
Sunday 4th July
Embed from Getty ImagesAfter losing one of the best left-backs in Serie A for at least half a year, Roma face a difficult decision on how to replace Leonardo Spinazzola. It will be near impossible to match his quality without disrupting his eventual return.
But according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Tiago Pinto is still aiming high and is dreaming of a deal for dynamic Atalanta man Robin Gosens.
Perhaps more likely would be someone like Federico Dimarco or Marcos Alonso.
Dimarco and Dijks the latest left-back links
Sunday 4th July
Embed from Getty ImagesAll of a sudden, there has been an explosion of links with left-backs for Roma to replace the injured Spinazzola.
According to Sky Sport, Emerson of Chelsea does remain an option, but the Blues want €25m to send him back to Rome.
Therefore, Roma may look within Serie A for reinforcements. Federico Dimarco is named as a target, despite recent reports suggesting Inter wanted to reintegrate him. The former Verona loanee could cost €10m.
Alternatively, Gianluca Di Marzio claims an enquiry has been made to Bologna about Mitchell Dijks.
Trio linked to replace Spinazzola
Saturday 3rd July
Embed from Getty ImagesJust a few days ago, this transfer blog was mentioning the stature of clubs monitoring Leonardo Spinazzola. Now, it has to reference who might replace him after his Euro 2020 campaign with Italy was cruelly ended by an Achilles injury which will rule him out for months.
Roma must now find a solution, as Riccardo Calafiori is not ready to start a whole season. Therefore, Gazzetta Dello Sport have named three players they could pursue.
The pink paper suggests a return for Emerson Palmieri, who came on for Spinazzola for Italy, could be an option. However, he is also a top target for Inter and Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli.
Therefore, either Cristiano Biraghi of Fiorentina or Gianluca Frabotta of Juventus – who was born in Rome – may be more realistic.
Double Marseille deal to go through next week
Saturday 3rd July
Embed from Getty ImagesRoma are ready to get rid of two of their unwanted players to the same destination, with the double deal to send Pau Lopez and Cengiz Under to Marseille nearing completion.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the goalkeeper will go to France on Tuesday for his medicals, while the winger is one step away from making the move.
Both players will leave on loan, with Marseille having an option to buy Lopez for €15m and an obligation to buy Under for €8m plus bonuses.
Pinto trying to close Xhaka deal
Thursday 1st July
Embed from Getty ImagesA lot has been said of Granit Xhaka’s future recently. The Arsenal midfielder is Jose Mourinho’s top target, but Roma have been haggling over the price.
In the meantime, Xhaka put in a sublime performance for Switzerland against France in the Euro 2020 Round of 16, a display which also reportedly caught the eyes of Juventus.
However, the 28-year-old has apparently given his word to Roma and remains their top target, despite The Telegraph regurgitating speculation of the club chasing Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa as an alternative.
Now, Corriere Dello Sport and ReteSport are both reporting that Roma general manager Tiago Pinto is in Milan to try and conclude three deals. He is in talks to send Cengiz Under and Pau Lopez to Marseille, while also in discussions with an Arsenal representative over Xhaka.
The player’s desire is clear and Pinto wants to get all three deals done by Sunday.
Olsen eyed by trio
Thursday 1st July
Embed from Getty ImagesWith his Euro 2020 adventure now over, Robin Olsen must find a solution for his club future after spending the last two seasons on loan away from Roma.
He is unlikely to be part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, so could seek a new home. According to Gianluigi Longari of SportItalia, Olsen is admired by West Ham, Lille and Real Sociedad.
Bianda offered escape route
Thursday 1st July
Embed from Getty ImagesMonchi made a lot of bad signings during his tenure as Roma sporting director, but William Bianda must have been one of the worst.
Plucked from the French second tier with minimal experience, Roma paid a fee rising to €11m to sign him in 2018.
Three years later, he has never played for the senior team and spent last season out on loan at Zulte Waregem.
Now, his time with Roma could be over. According to L’Equipe, Montpellier want to take him back to his native France. However, they would rather not pay a transfer fee – either taking him on loan or on a free transfer, despite his contract running for another two years.
Cakir an alternative to Patricio
Thursday 1st July
Embed from Getty ImagesA name regularly mentioned in gossip columns, it is now Roma’s turn to be linked with Turkey and Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
The Giallorossi are looking for a new number one and Cakir has long been tipped to make a move to a top European league.
Rui Patricio remains the leading contender, but UOL Esporte believe Cakir is being looked at as a plan B – with Jose Mourinho’s blessing.
Roma Women close to Thaisa coup
Thursday 1st July
Embed from Getty ImagesA new era is about to begin for Roma Women, as Alessandro Spugna prepares to take over a cup-winning squad that, with a few adjustments, could become a title-challenging one.
It seems Roma are ready to make a statement in the transfer market, with Il Calcio Femminile reporting that they are close to signing Thaisa from Real Madrid.
A former AC Milan player, the midfielder has 86 caps for Brazil and at 32 years old would provide experience and quality.
Roma linked with ‘new Lukaku’
Wednesday 30th June
Embed from Getty ImagesRoma are looking to find a new striker this summer, but it needs to be the right long-term choice.
One option for the future that has emerged is Herculano Nabian, who currently plays for Vitoria Guimaraes. Only 17 years old, he would not be an instant starter, but Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to work with him.
According to Calciomercato.it, Roma are battling with Juventus and AC Milan for his signature. Dubbed the ‘new Lukaku’ last year, Nabian (wearing number nine in the picture above) could cost around €10m.
Florenzi favours move abroad
Wednesday 30th June
Embed from Getty ImagesThe future of former Roma captain Alessandro Florenzi is no clearer after his loan spell at Paris Saint-Germain. The French giants are pursuing Achraf Hakimi instead of his permanent signature, but that does not mean the Roman right-back will be a member of Jose Mourinho’s squad next season.
According to Sky Sport, Florenzi is admired by Juventus, Milan and Inter, but would prefer to move abroad again if he is to leave Roma permanently, as currently seems likely.
Dzeko in demand
Wednesday 30th June
Embed from Getty ImagesThere will likely be a queue of suitors for Edin Dzeko if he decides to leave Roma this summer, and it seems to be getting longer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Turkish side Besiktas are now keen on the former Manchester City striker, joining their league rivals Fenerbahce in the hunt.
Cengiz could unlock Kostic deal
Wednesday 30th June
Embed from Getty ImagesWhile the update below suggests Roma are the most likely club to sign Filip Kostic, it does not necessarily mean they will do. Given Frankfurt’s relatively high demands, they may be working to reduce the price.
According to Il Romanista, the plan is now to include either Cengiz Under or Justin Kluivert in a swap deal to lower the price.
Both wingers were out on loan last season, with Kluivert playing in the Bundesliga. However, Mourinho seems more willing to work with him, so Under could be the likeliest candidate to make way.
He has also been linked with Marseille as they keep pushing for Pau Lopez, though.
Roma in pole for Kostic
Tuesday 29th June
Embed from Getty ImagesRoma’s pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt wide man Filip Kostic is seemingly accelerating. According to Calciomercato.it, the club are in pole position to sign the 28-year-old in a deal worth somewhere between €20m and €25m.
Three-way battle for Sabitzer
Tuesday 29th June
Embed from Getty ImagesJose Mourinho has always been fond of Marcel Sabitzer and it did not take long after the coach’s appointment at Roma for the club to be linked with the RB Leipzig midfielder.
Those links have resurfaced now, with Bild naming Roma as one of three suitors, alongside Milan and Arsenal, for the Austrian.
Dzeko and Frabotta to swap places?
Tuesday 29th June
Embed from Getty ImagesIt would not be a summer without Edin Dzeko being linked away from Roma, although this year there is a very real feel to the idea that he could leave. With one year on his contract and the club looking for a younger striker, a tough decision may be made.
Juventus were close to signing the striker last summer and according to Corriere Dello Sport, they remain interested now.
Roma would ideally like to take centre-back Merih Demiral in return, but his high valuation could switch their focus to left-back Gianluca Frabotta.
Spinazzola still turning heads
Tuesday 29th June
Embed from Getty ImagesMan of the match in two of Italy’s four games at Euro 2020 so far, Leonardo Spinazzola is making the most of the international stage – to an extent that might be cause for Roma concern.
The wing-back is now on the radar of a number of top European clubs. Specifically, Sky Sport list Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain as those watching on.
Roma remain keen to keep one of their best players, but will be wary of offers coming in.
Double Marseille move this week?
Monday 28th June
Embed from Getty ImagesTwo of Roma’s unwanted players, Pau Lopez and Cengiz Under, were recently tipped to follow the same exit route away from the club this summer, as Marseille are in talks to sign both.
Sky Sport insist that remains a solution, with both players moving on loan with options to buy for €15m and €12m respectively. Those options to buy would become obligatory once each player reaches a certain number of appearances – although as Under’s loan to Leicester last season showed, nothing is guaranteed.
Either way, the duo seem to be bound for France, with Sky believing the deals could go through this week.
Mourinho wants Saka switch?
Monday 28th June
Embed from Getty ImagesReports from a dubious Spanish source recently suggested that Jose Mourinho was keen for Roma to sign Bukayo Saka from Arsenal.
Those claims will have been taken with a pinch of salt at first, but now Gazzetta Dello Sport have their own updates about the potential pursuit of the player.
They maintain that Mourinho wants to work with Saka, who can play anywhere down the left flank or even on the right.
However, the England Euro 2020 squad member is valued at around €50m by an Arsenal side desperate to keep him.
Roma to send Santon to Wolves?
Monday 28th June
Embed from Getty ImagesDespite the recent appointment of Jose Mourinho, a coach who once foresaw great things for Davide Santon which have ultimately not materialised, the full-back is keen to leave Roma this summer.
One year remains on his contract, but he has reportedly asked to be released, which would not necessarily make sense for Roma.
A mutual solution, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, would be to send him to Wolves as a counterpart for Rui Patricio.
La Magica are still trying to reduce the distance between their offer and Wolves’ demands for the goalkeeper, so sending a player with previous Premier League experience the other way may help.
These player links to Roma FC are quality ones which will definitely help Roma challenge for Champions league.
I hope this time hose Roma can now contest for tittles Wit all these quality players coming in, Jose been in his years of experience will be able to make things right this time.
