Roma captain Alessandro Florenzi is on his way to Spain to sign for Valencia on loan.
The 28-year-old inherited the captaincy from the now-retired Daniele De Rossi in the summer, but has not always fit in under Paulo Fonseca, despite making four starts in January.
With a place in the Italy squad for Euro 2020 at risk, the right-back has decided to leave his boyhood club in search of regular gametime.
Florenzi is the longest-serving member of the current Roma squad, having graduated the academy in 2011.
Roma have been linked with Fulham’s Cyrus Christie to replace Florenzi, although Fonseca already has Davide Santon, Bruno Peres and Leonardo Spinazzola among the ranks.
Florenzi, whose flight is expected to depart tomorrow, told Sky Sport Italia: “I am not emotionally ready to talk yet.”
Valencia will not have an option to buy the versatile player.
Meanwhile, two players have undergone medicals to join Roma today, with the last details still in need of finalisation for Carles Perez and Gonzalo Villar.
