A potentially season-defining run of fixtures begins for Roma Women on Sunday when they host Inter upon the return from the international break.
Currently on an eight-game winning run in Serie A Femminile, Roma are ready to face the first of four other top-five clubs in between now and the end of March.
The Giallorosse go into their game against Inter with five more points than their visitors, who two weeks ago were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by Juventus in their most recent game. In the league, though, Inter are unbeaten in seven.
The reverse fixture, back in October, was a 1-0 defeat for Roma, who conceded in the 85th minute. It remains the most recent defeat Alessandro Spugna’s side have suffered in Serie A.
Hence, both sides have form, but Roma’s is superior, as reflected by their position in the standings. Roma went into the weekend in second place, level on points with Sassuolo in third. After the Neroverde drew with fourth-place Milan on Saturday, Roma can move outright into the Champions League places by winning. It would also extend the gap over Inter’s rivals ahead of a meeting with them next month.
But this will be a bigger challenge than some of the recent fixtures, making for an exciting battle.
Roma Women v Inter player focus
Roma are without recent defensive signing Beata Kollmats due to a fever, which means Tecla Pettenuzzo should play alongside Elena Linari in the backline – potentially joined by Lucia Di Guglielmo in a three. Recent midfield addition Milica Mijatovic is in the squad, though, so could debut at some point.
In midfield, Vanessa Bernauer would make her 50th Serie A start for Roma if selected. On the flanks, Annamaria Serturini could make her 75th league appearance; meanwhile, Emilie Haavi is seeking to become just the second player to score in five consecutive games for the club.
The game kicks off at 1:35pm UK time.
