Roma moving on from Sergio Oliveira as Porto agree to send former loanee to Galatasaray

Sergio Oliveira will be signing for Galatasaray instead of returning to Roma after his loan spell from Porto, reports have indicated.

Roma brought Oliveira to the club on a six-month loan deal in January, with the option to buy at the end of the season.

The midfielder went on to make 21 appearances for the club, for whom he scored a penalty on his debut and featured in the Europa Conference League final. In total, he found the net three times and made one assist.

However, Roma were reluctant to meet the full value of his purchase clause. Negotiations with Porto over driving the fee down did not lead to a conclusion of him being able to stay.

Instead, it has now emerged – via journalists like Pedro Sepulveda, Fabrizio Romano, Emanuele Zotti and Gianluca Di Marzio – that Oliveira will be making a move from Porto to Galatasaray.

Interestingly, he will only cost the Turkish club €3m, which is €10m lower than what Roma were being asked to pay.

Oliveira is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Super Lig side, prompting Roma to look at other options to strengthen their midfield.

Nemanja Matic has already joined from Manchester United, while Roma keep working on a return for Sassuolo star Davide Frattesi and have other names like Lyon’s Houssem Aouar on their radar as well.
