Three Portuguese players linked with Roma after Mourinho appointment – report

Renato Sanches is one of the first Portuguese players to have been linked with Roma following the appointment of Jose Mourinho.

A number of high-profile names have quickly been suggested as options for Roma after they announced Mourinho would be taking over as manager in the summer. The legendary coach has been tipped to reunite with some of his former players from his previous spells with Manchester United and Tottenham.

But there are also rumours about players he hasn’t worked with before, and according to Calciomercato, Sanches could be an option.

The midfielder has fared better with Lille after a difficult spell with Bayern Munich. Part of Lille’s challenge for the Ligue 1 title this season, the 23-year-old could earn a move away.

Represented by Jorge Mendes, Sanches is now seen as an option for Roma as they look to strengthen in midfield. At present, he is just one of many names to be linked, but the Portuguese connection is an interesting one – especially with him sharing an agent with Mourinho.

Two other Portuguese players mentioned as options by Calciomercato are goalkeeper Jose Sa and striker Tiago Tomas. Sa – another Mendes client – is currently in Greece with Olympiacos and may be a more realistic target than some of the other names suggested to replace Pau Lopez.

Tomas, meanwhile, is an 18-year-old striker at Sporting CP who could be one for the future.
