Roma have reunited Marten de Roon with Gian Piero Gasperini by signing the midfielder from Atalanta.
De Roon had two spells with Atalanta, separated by a single season in North Yorkshire with Middlesbrough when they were in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season.
After his return to Serie A, De Roon played more than 400 times for Atalanta, including 358 appearances under Gasperini’s guidance. He is the most-used player of Gasperini’s coaching career.
Now, they are rekindling their connection after a surprise deal was struck for Roma to buy De Roon for a reported fee of €1m.
Now 35, the Dutch midfielder will wear the number 15 shirt for his new club.
