Official: El Aynaoui leaves Roma for RB Leipzig loan

Roma have sent Neil El Aynaoui away on loan to RB Leipzig just a year after buying him from Lens.

There have been two sides to El Aynaoui over the past 12 months: the one who plays for Roma and the one who plays for Morocco. The latter looks a much better player, with Gian Piero Gasperini yet to really crack how to get the most out of the 25-year-old at club level.

El Aynaoui has struggled to convince at Roma, or even show what his best role in midfield is. Thus, with Gasperini gladly reuniting with Marten de Roon – his most-used Atalanta player – Roma have accepted El Aynaoui’s departure.

Leipzig are taking him to the Bundesliga for the first time in his career. The formula is a loan, which the German side have paid for, with a €25m option to buy.

Roma paid €23m plus €2m in potential bonuses to sign El Aynaoui, so could make their money back if he impresses at Leipzig.
