Roma have announced the news we’ve all been waiting for: Mile Svilar has signed a new contract.
Svilar was Roma’s best player last season and was named the best goalkeeper in the whole of Serie A after keeping 16 clean sheets from 38 league games.
It followed up some promising signs from Svilar towards the back end of the season before after he was promoted over Rui Patrício as Roma’s first-choice goalkeeper.
All the while, though, Svilar was still on the comparatively low salary he agreed when Roma brought him in to be their backup keeper in 2022, on a free transfer from Benfica.
His original contract was due to run until 2027, but it has now been upgraded to last until 2030.
The Belgium-born one-time Serbia international will reportedly earn €3.5m per year thanks to his new deal, which makes him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the club’s history.
Crucially, there will be no release clause in his contract either, meaning Roma will be in control of his value if other clubs show interest in him in the future.
But for now, Roma have secured themselves a forecasted five more years of Svilar to look forward to.
