Roma Women end Serie A season with derby win as Roman Haug scores and assists on first league start

Roma Women rounded off their Serie A season in style with a 3-0 win over Lazio on Saturday.

With Champions League football already secured for Roma and relegation confirmed for Lazio, Alessandro Spugna made some changes for the derby, such as giving first league starts to Joyce Borini and Sophie Roman Haug.

Roman Haug was the provider when Roma went ahead inside 40 seconds; Milica Mijatovic subsequently opened the scoring.

The lead was doubled before half-time when Valeria Pirone finished with a lob after an assist from Giada Greggi.

It became three beyond the hour mark; this time Angelica Soffia assisted and Roman Haug scored (for a fourth consecutive league game) with a header.

Given Roma’s comfort in the tie, there was an opportunity for Spugna to use some less experienced players from the bench; Eleonora Pacioni, Anastasia Ferrara and Mina Bergersen all got run-outs.

Now, commitments for another league season are over. The focus will soon turn to a second consecutive Coppa Italia final.

In terms of the league, Roma have finished the season with a points tally of 54, which is 17 higher than the previous best they set last term.
