Justin Kluivert leaves Roma on loan for RB Leipzig

Justin Kluivert has left Roma to join RB Leipzig on loan for the season.

It brings a pause to the Dutchman’s two years in Italy, where he has struggled with inconsistency.

Kluivert arrived with fairly big expectations in 2018, but found gametime hard to come by in his first season. He became more of a regular feature in the team last season, but was still never a guaranteed starter.

Since Roma changed to a 3-4-2-1 formation, he has struggled to find a role in the team.

Now, he will spend a season in Germany with Leipzig – who have history taking players from Roma on loan, having done the same with Patrik Schick last season before the striker moved to Bayer Leverkusen a few months ago.

In total, Kluivert has made 66 appearances for Roma, scoring nine goals.

He told Leipzig’s website: “I’m pleased that this transfer has been completed. RB Leipzig demonstrated that this was the ideal place for me to develop and make the next step in my career and help the team. My goal is to get games under my belt here.

“The Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in the world and has a lot of quality. We also have some exciting challenges in the Champions League, such as Paris St. Germain and Manchester United, which I’m really looking forward to.”

Good luck, Justin.
