Fabio Capello offers Roma advice on Paulo Fonseca and Europa League prediction

Fabio Capello has revealed his support of Paulo Fonseca and believes Roma will book their place in the Europa League semi-finals.

Roma are building up for the second leg of their quarter-final with Ajax, boasting a 2-1 lead from the first leg.

This competition may carry Fonseca’s best hopes of guiding Roma into the Champions League after falling off the pace in Serie A. If La Magica do not go on to win the competition, though, Fonseca’s job could be in trouble.

Capello, the last Roma coach to win the Scudetto, is an admirer of the current incumbent of the role – but he offered some advice on how the club can improve under the Portuguese tactician.

“I like him, even for the way the team plays,” Capello told Sky Sport Italia.” He has a good squad, there have been some injuries, players were missed that give something more.

“There was the problem with [Edin] Dzeko and he paid for it. They wanted to hurt themselves.

“He doesn’t know how to defend very well and the weak point in the goalkeeper [Pau Lopez], even if he has been the saviour lately. The goalkeeper is like a striker that scores a lot of goals, he might have to make the decisive save.

“However, I believe in this Roma. Maybe they will arrive in the semi-finals.”
