Steven Nzonzi says he would be surprised by Roma return

Steven Nzonzi has revealed his Roma future is still in doubt, but he does not expect to return to the club.

Nzonzi was one of Monchi’s biggest signings in 2018, shortly after winning the World Cup with France. However, his move to Roma didn’t quite work out.

The midfielder only spent one season in the capital before being loaned out. A stint with Galatasaray also failed to lift off, but he has found more joy since moving to Rennes.

One of Tiago Pinto’s main tasks this summer will be to find buyers for players like Nzonzi, who could only leave on loan due to a lack of interest before.

But the former Sevilla star has revealed his future is still in question.

“I find myself in total oblivion at the moment,” Nzonzi told L’Equipe. “I am on loan and I have another year of contract with Roma, a club with a bit of a peculiar situation.

“I don’t know how they see my future. It would surprise me if they made me return to Trigoria.

“I’m fine here, I am in France. I have been abroad a lot and I can say that Rennes is a club that functions very well. And here I am not far from Paris, so there are many positive things in this context.”
