Eldor Shomurodov has left Roma in order to join İstanbul Başakşehir on a loan move that should become permanent.
Shomurodov was one of the surprises of the season for Roma, scoring their first goal of the 2024-25 campaign and adding six more afterwards. Claudio Ranieri ensured the striker stayed at the club when he was attracting interest from lower down in Serie A in January.
However, Shomurodov has now been sacrificed, making a move to the Turkish Süper Lig just days after Tammy Abraham moved to Beşiktaş.
The 30-year-old leaves Roma with 13 goals from 85 appearances after his 2021 arrival from Genoa. He also had loan spells at Spezia and Cagliari in between.
The terms of the deal are believed to see Roma earn €3m for the loan and a further €3m once the obligation to buy is activated on certain conditions, plus a potential €1m in bonuses.
However, Roma’s statement only labels the clause as an option to buy rather than an obligation.
