Anderlecht acquire Amadou Diawara from Roma on permanent transfer

Amadou Diawara has joined Anderlecht from Roma on a permanent transfer for a reported fee of €3m.

After joining Roma from Napoli in 2019 while Kostas Manolas moved the other way, Diawara initially made a decent impression alongside Jordan Veretout in midfield.

However, his form dropped in the latter stages of his debut season and he struggled to recover.

Diawara consequently only started seven league games in the 2020-21 season, and just two in the following – his final – campaign.

Midfield is the main area Roma have been trying to reinforce in recent months; they have done so with the arrivals of Nemanja Matic, Georginio Wijnaldum and Diawara’s compatriot, Mady Camara.

Partially as a consequence, Diawara has been sacrificed. His fate has been sealed for a while, and the destination has now been chosen and confirmed. He has joined Belgian side Anderlecht for a fee believed to be around €3m, which represents a steep loss on the initial investment but is better than nothing for a player who has been inactive since December.

The Guinea international leaves Roma having made 66 appearances across three seasons, scoring twice.
