Roma Women goal contributions ranking 2023-24

On their journey to the league-and-cup double in 2023-24, Roma Women scored 113 goals across all competitions – one more than they recorded in 2022-23.

Various factors contributed to Roma’s second successive Scudetto, plus the addition of Coppa Italia honours, but their relentless attacking approach was a constant theme.

The usual suspects and one new addition in particular stood out around the opposition box for Roma, with Valentina Giacinti and Evelyne Viens sharing the top-scorer honours and Manuela Giugliano leading the way for assists.

But which players had the biggest influence in Roma’s scoring? Here are the five players whose combined goal-and-assist tallies for the season were in double figures.

Manuela Giugliano – 31

16 goals, 15 assists (39 appearances)

Giugliano had always been one of Roma’s most technically gifted players since her arrival ahead of their second season in existence, but her fifth campaign with the club really felt like an explosion of her productivity.

Unlocked by being able to play in a slightly more advanced midfield role, Giugliano scored as many league goals (10) as she had in the past two seasons put together. She also managed to score five times in the Champions League, despite Roma failing to progress past the group stage, and once in the Coppa Italia, which they won.

Giugliano’s rediscovered eye for goal didn’t come at the expense of her creativity, though. Her assists were once again fundamental, as she led the way within the squad with 15. Even when she wasn’t at her best in the Coppa Italia final, she still came up with three salvaging set-ups.

Indeed, with four apiece, Giugliano was Roma’s top assist provider in both the Champions League and Coppa Italia over the season, while also sharing the equivalent claim in the league with seven.

All in all, Giugliano’s record of 31 goal contributions from 39 appearances was inspirational.

Valentina Giacinti – 27

18 goals, 9 assists (40 appearances)

When Roma won their first Scudetto in 2022-23, one of the major contributing factors that made them worthy of becoming champions was the addition of a reliable regular goalscorer like Giacinti. During her debut season in the capital, the former Milan captain topped the team’s scoring charts with 20 goals.

This time around, her final tally was two fewer, but still not surpassed by any teammate (though it was matched by Evelyne Viens). Yet for every two Giacinti goals, there was also one assist.

With 12 goals in the league (including one hat-trick), one in the Coppa Italia and five in the Champions League, plus seven Serie A assists and two in the Coppa Italia, Giacinti did not feel the burden of being Roma’s only out-and-out centre-forward. Conversely, she contributed in more ways than that role necessarily entails.

Giacinti was Alessandro Spugna’s most-used player in 2023-24 and she led the line effectively across her 40 appearances.

Evelyne Viens – 25

18 goals, 7 assists (37 appearances)

A new addition for the 2023-24 season, Viens became a capable operator anywhere across the attack, living up to the expectations of a player who had attracted interest from some well-established suitors in the summer.

Although she had never played in Italy before, Viens concluded the season as Serie A’s top scorer with 13 goals (without any penalties) and also claimed the FIGC’s award for being the best attacker in the league.

Also scoring twice in the Coppa Italia – including the crucial equaliser that took the final to extra time – and three times in the Champions League, Viens brought incisive instincts to Roma’s frontline.

Able to thrive out wide as well as centrally, she contributed seven assists across the season, all but one being in the league.

Emilie Haavi – 15

6 goals, 9 assists (37 appearances)

Serie A’s MVP in the 2022-23 season, Emilie Haavi continued to reward Roma’s trust in her during 2023-24.

Although her season goal tally was down from 11 to six (split equally between the two competitions Roma won), the irrepressible Norwegian winger was an effective creator, registering nine assists. Three of those came in the Champions League, making her the only player other than Giugliano to set up multiple goals in that tournament for the Giallorosse.

Benedetta Glionna – 10

4 goals, 6 assists (30 appearances)

Benedetta Glionna’s gametime reduced in the 2023-24 season compared to the previous one, in which she was Roma’s most-appeared player, but she still produced four goals and six assists from her 30 outings.
