Roma Women are now the proud holders of every trophy available in Italy after the reigning Serie A and Coppa Italia champions beat Fiorentina 3-1 in the Supercoppa Italiana.
Roma now have two of each of those titles in their cabinet, but this is the first time ever that they have held all three simultaneously (and the first time any club has in Italy since Juventus in 2022).
2025 could barely have got off to a better start for Roma, who have some catching up to do with Juventus if they are to retain their Scudetto. The 3-1 win over Fiorentina should serve as a catalyst for further success ahead of the remaining five matches of the regular league season and then the Scudetto Pool.
For now, it’s time to savour the glory of Roma’s latest triumph. Winning the Supercoppa may not be as arduous a task as either of the competitions that qualify a team for it, but it was the only piece of silverware that Roma didn’t currently have their hands on – and now their dominance is there to be celebrated.
Here, Giallorossi Yorkshire rates the players out of 10 for their performances against Fiorentina.
Isabella Kresche – 8
All of Roma’s honours until now have had some form of Camelia Ceasar contribution becoming a lasting memory, starting from her saves in the penalty shootout when the club won the Coppa Italia for the first time in 2021. However, this time, it was emergency summer signing Kresche who stepped up, with Ceasar having to forfeit participation late on. Kresche conceded once but otherwise did everything she was called upon for, saving efforts from distance or close range.
Frederikke Thogersen – 7
Thogersen has staked her claim to be Roma’s starting right-back recently and was a thorn in her former team Fiorentina’s side, even if she didn’t venture forward as much as she sometimes has the capability to and ran out of steam somewhat before having to be taken off. The Dane did had some tough battles to contend with but generally gave a decent account of herself.
Elena Linari – 8
She’s Fiorentina through and through, but you wouldn’t know it every time she plays against them for Roma. Once again, Linari put in a monumental effort against her hometown team. She made innumerable blocks and commanded the defence. Could she have got tighter to Madelen Janogy for the goal Roma conceded? That would be debatable, but Linari’s importance shone through in the closing stages of the game in particular as Roma regained control and then retained it.
Moeka Minami – 7
The only Roma player to be booked, Minami could have walked the tightrope thereafter but rarely looked in further danger (it turned out to be her only foul). She wasn’t the best of the two centre-backs and could have improved from a positional sense sometimes, but did enough to play her part in keeping Fiorentina at bay.
Verena Hanshaw – 7
Hanshaw had the most touches of any Roma player from left-back and was reliable with her experience, playing a supporting role down that side of the pitch. Like fellow full-back Thogersen, she could have succumbed to danger from Fiorentina’s wide players – including ex-Giallorosse winger Agnese Bonfantini – but she made sure she wasn’t as troubled as she could have been.
Saki Kumagai – 8
That was an age-defying performance from the 34-year-old. Kumagai marshalled the midfield superbly, winning four tackles – and often in crucial phases of play. She was a calming influence in what can be a chaotic position in a game like this and her performance was well worthy of extra appreciation.
Giada Greggi – 8
Greggi was just as good alongside Saki in midfield. Everyone knows what to expect from her now with the dynamism she brings, but the fact she does it week in, week out – in games small or big – is what has made her one of this team’s greatest influences. With a remarkable 93% pass completion rate and 100% tackle success, Greggi was a crucial disruptor and impetus provider.
Manuela Giugliano – 7
Embed from Getty ImagesIt must have been a special day for Giugliano, who got to lift a trophy as Roma’s club captain for the first time following the departure of Elisa Bartoli in the summer. Giugliano got into some dangerous positions and couldn’t always connect with the chances that came her way (only one of her six shots was on target) but her persistence helped Roma with their chance creation.
Benedetta Glionna – 7
It was Glionna who gave Roma the advantage with her powerful strike from the edge of the box in the 17th minute – and for a player who sometimes flatters to deceive, it was an emphatic moment. Interchanging wings with Emilie Haavi, Glionna couldn’t always find the right space to thrive from that point on and was later withdrawn, but her conviction enabled Roma to get a foothold in the game.
Valentina Giacinti – 8
As is customary for Giacinti, Roma’s main striker was up for the battle, often getting tight to the opposition defenders and being a handful to deal with. Her finely placed header from Haavi’s cross put Roma back in front less than five minutes after Fiorentina equalised – and that was crucial, since Sebastian De La Fuente’s side made a game of it. After scoring more goals than any other Roma player in 2024, it looks like the 31-year-old version of Giacinti is going to be just as dangerous in 2025.
Emilie Haavi – 9
After missing Roma’s last three games of 2024, Haavi was back in the starting lineup – and you wouldn’t have known she hadn’t played in a month. Haavi dominated out wide, putting in useful cross after useful cross – not just for Giacinti’s goal, though that was the pick of the bunch. She was the player with the most touches in the opposition box, constantly proving a menace to Fiorentina’s defence (De La Fuente ended up taking both full-backs off). Haavi was a deserved player of the match.
Substitutes
All three of Roma’s changes came fairly late, so there isn’t much to rate Eseosa Aigbogun on this time, but both Marta Pandini and Alice Corelli were active for the final goal with their work rate high up the pitch. Corelli strongly claimed possession in the Fiorentina box and fired in the goal that took the game away from the opponents – a composed finish for a 21-year-old who surprised some by being reintegrated at Roma this summer but who is starting to express her potential again. She deserved that moment.
