Roma Women play in the Supercoppa Italiana for the first time ever on Wednesday as they take on Juventus.
The tournament has taken on a new format this year, with the top four sides from Serie A being paired up in semi-finals before the winners of each tie face off for the trophy.
Roma, then, are just 90 minutes away from reaching a first ever cup final. What stands in between them will be tough, though.
Juventus were the last team Roma faced in 2020, as the Giallorosse suffered a 4-1 defeat in a game that was closer than the scoreline suggested. Now, they will go head-to-head again for each team’s first game of 2021.
The game will take place at a different venue to the location of their last meeting. All matches in this season’s Supercoppa – including the final on January 10th – will be held at Stadio Comunale di Chiavari, in Genoa.
To reach the final, Roma must produce a performance of the highest level they can manage. The club have never beaten Juventus in women’s football, so must change that trend to progress.
It could be a significant day for Roma captain Elisa Bartoli. The left-back is just one appearance away from her 50th for her hometown club.
The game kicks off at 11:00am UK time.
