Roma Women have announced the arrival of Petronella Ekroth to add much-needed cover at centre-back.
Federica Di Criscio, the club’s most experienced central defender, is currently on the sidelines with a ligament injury, leaving the club with the relatively inexperienced trio of Allyson Swaby, Tecla Pettenuzzo and Heden Corrado (who has been struggling with injuries of her own) at the back.
Now, they have confirmed the signing of Ekroth to bolster the ranks and help guide the promising youngsters around her.
The 30-year-old joins from Djurgaardens IF in Sweden, where she had returned after spending last season in Italy with Juventus.
Ekroth has never played for the senior Swedish women’s national side, but has represented her country at youth level in the past.
Having helped Juventus win the double last season, she will be hoping to make an instant impact upon her return to Italy.
Benvenuta, Petronella.
