Roma have banked €800k by selling backup goalkeeper Mat Ryan to Lens after just one appearance.
Ryan arrived on a free transfer in the summer to replace Rui Patricio as the backup goalkeeper for Mile Svilar, but was only able to make his debut in a Coppa Italia game against Sampdoria and never made his bow in Serie A or the Europa League.
The Australia international has now been sold to Lens in order to pave the way for a new backup goalkeeper – most likely Pierluigi Gollini – to arrive.
Ryan would have been out of contract with Roma at the end of the season anyway, barring a two-year option clause.
He leaves Roma with one appearance and one goal conceded.
Giallorossi Yorkshire verdict (yes we’re doing one)
Dom: Gutted I never got to combine my love of Roma with my love of NRL Supercoach as he left before that season even started
Samuel: You can’t complain at that profit for someone who only played once. Interested to see how much Gollini costs to replace him but one thing’s for certain: Svilar is the way forward!
Thomas: Forgot he played for us
