Official: Roma send Enzo Le Fée on loan to Sunderland

Roma have confirmed the swift exit of Enzo Le Fée to Sunderland after just half a season in Serie A.

Le Fée has joined the Championship side on a loan deal until the end of the season that contains an obligation to buy if Sunderland are promoted to the Premier League. The cost of the potential permanent deal would be similar to the €23m Roma spent to sign him from Rennes in July.

In the meantime, Sunderland are said to be covering Le Fée’s salary in full for the rest of the season.

Le Fée has played just 10 times for Roma: twice when Daniele De Rossi was in charge, five times under Ivan Juric and three times for Claudio Ranieri. The midfielder missed all of September’s action with an injury and has only completed 90 minutes once since.

While Sunderland seems like a surprise destination, Le Fée used to play for their manager, Régis Le Bris, back at Lorient.

Giallorossi Yorkshire verdict

Giallorossi Yorkshire members have our say about Le Fée’s exit:

Samuel: I was hoping he’d bring a bit of dynamism but sometimes it looks like the game goes a bit faster than him. Still, it’s a surprise seeing him end up in the Championship and after only this long too. I think he should do well for Sunderland and that buying clause could be crucial as I suspect we’d struggle to get our money back otherwise, not that he’s been terrible – just not had any kind of momentum and Koné has overshadowed him.

Thomas: Centre of the park is very congested so it’s a shame he’s not been able to cement his place but wasn’t really going to displace Paredes or Kone the way they’ve been playing. And as a 10 it’s reserved for Paulo. Hopefully it means Baldanzi stays.

Harry: What a bizarre move. There’s a Le Bris connection but I’d have thought he’d be playing top flight football nonetheless. What a disappointing signing. Weird as he looked the part prior to his arrival in Rome, injury probably didn’t help.
