Roma Women have completed the signing of Italy international defender Elena Linari.
The centre-back underwent a medical with the club on Wednesday and her move has now been confirmed. She has agreed a contract until 2023.
This is a major signing for Roma, who have been looking for reinforcements that can take them to the next level.
The current centre-back partnership of Allyson Swaby and Tecla Pettenuzzo has served the club well so far this season. However, Linari’s arrival could be transformative.
Aged 26, Linari is entering her prime years. She has already won Serie A three times – twice with Brescia and once with Fiorentina – and has 64 caps for Italy.
Linari also has experience playing abroad, winning a Spanish league title with Atletico Madrid in 2019 and spending the first part of this season in France with Bordeaux.
Now, she is returning to Italy for the first time since 2018. She will reunite with former Fiorentina teammate and Italy colleague Elisa Bartoli, who is Roma’s captain.
After the move was announced, Linari told the club’s website: “I chose Roma because it’s Roma.
“The club has a great past, a fantastic present and a big future ahead of it too.
“I think I am at the right stage of my career to help the team to progress and improve.”
Benvenuta, Elena.
