Edin Dzeko and Jose Mourinho want to work together, meaning the striker could extend his contract at Roma, a report has claimed.
Dzeko is one of the main players whose future is up for discussion as Mourinho plans for his first season in charge. The Bosnian is out of contract at the end of next season and there have been signs of a premature farewell.
But a chance remains that Dzeko could stay, according to Il Romanista. Mourinho has made no secret of his admiration of the former Manchester City star, and they have reportedly been in touch.
Mourinho is said to have told Dzeko he wants to work with him, and vice versa. The only problem would be his salary, although Roma could extend his contract by a further year with a reduced wage.
Juventus and Inter remain interested in the 35-year-old, but may have difficulties affording him. Therefore, staying at Roma could be a genuine option for the club’s third top scorer of all time.
That would not discount a new striker arriving, with Il Romanista mentioning Torino’s Andrea Belotti (who could cost around €15m) as the most likely candidate at this stage. Hence, Roma could have three centre-forwards next season, as Borja Mayoral will also remain on loan from Real Madrid.
