The wait is over and Roma will be back in the Champions League next season for the first time in eight editions.
Since Roma’s most recent Champions League game in March 2019, more than 50 of their former players have played in the competition for someone else.
In this quiz, you have 20 minutes to name as many of those players as you possibly can. Top tip: don’t just think of the better players; there are some flops in here too.
The most recent season each player featured in the Champions League is given as a clue, along with the club they were playing for and their main position.
For a player to count as an answer, they must have made at least one senior appearance for Roma (so, for example, academy graduates Davide Frattesi and Matteo Politano don’t count) and at least one appearance in the Champions League between the 2019-20 season and 2025-26 season.
That second stipulation rules out someone like Robin Olsen, who was only an unused substitute for Aston Villa in the 2024-25 Champions League, for example.
Finally, only players who have played in the Champions League after leaving Roma are counted. Players like Georginio Wijnaldum or Roger Ibañez have played in the Champions League more recently than Roma’s last game in it, but never since leaving the club. Likewise, Donyell Malen from the current squad wouldn’t count (although someone who left on loan, played in the Champions League and then returned would).
Apologies for the more long-winded than usual set of stipulations. Now you can get guessing.
Good luck, and feel free to share your score after in the comments.
