The Rome-born manager had three spells with his beloved club as manager – the first lasting from September 2009 to February 2011, almost culminating in a league title, the second seeing him steady the ship as caretaker for the last 12 games of the 2018-19 season, and the third providing him with the best win percentage of his professional career, taking Roma from 12th to 5th in the 2024-25 season.
