Roma Women have announced that Valeria Pirone will be leaving the club at the end of her one-year contract.
Pirone joined Roma on a short-term deal last summer, bringing experience to Alessandro Spugna’s attack.
The former Sassuolo striker scored her first goal for the club in September, against Pomigliano, before netting a brace against the side she had joined from the following month.
In December, she became the first ever goalscorer in the women’s Derby Della Capitale, when Roma won the first edition against Lazio 3-2.
Pirone would also score in the reverse fixture at the end of the season, to cap off her solitary campaign in the capital.
Having shared responsibilities with Paloma Lazaro throughout the season, Pirone started 15 games for Roma among 23 appearances, scoring a total of 11 goals. Her tally included 11 starts in 17 Serie A appearances, from which eight league goals resulted.
Hence, only Lazaro (with 13 in all competitions) scored more than Pirone for the club in their most successful season yet.
However, the 33-year-old will now be finding a new home as Roma look to evolve their attack with a big-name centre-forward ahead of their first ever foray into the Champions League.
