Valeria Pirone sinks former side as Roma Women beat high-flying Sassuolo

Roma Women earned their best result of the season so far by defeating Sassuolo 2-0 on Sunday.

The visitors had won all six of their opening Serie A Femminile season, whereas Roma went into the game out of form, but the tables turned thanks to a Valeria Pirone double.

The striker, who joined from Sassuolo in the summer, scored in the 23rd and 48th minutes to round off a memorable week in which she also scored her first two goals for Italy.

Roma rise to fourth in the table as a result, having earned 13 points from their first seven games.

It marks Roma’s first win since mid-September and is also the first time they have kept a clean sheet since the opening day.
