Roma Women reach second consecutive Coppa Italia final

Reigning Coppa Italia Femminile Champions Roma Women are into the final of the 2021-22 edition.

Their trophy defence has gone all the way to the May 22nd showpiece after a 3-0 aggregate victory over Empoli in the semi-finals was confirmed with a 2-0 second leg win.

The goals came from defenders Angelica Soffia and Elisa Bartoli in the 25th and 80th minutes respectively.

It means Roma will defend their trophy in a head-to-head encounter, most likely with Juventus (who will protect a 6-1 aggregate lead over Milan in the second leg of their semi-final on Sunday) in a few weeks’ time.

The Coppa Italia was Roma Women’s first trophy and they now have the chance to retain it, although another tough battle will await if it is to be against the only side above them in Serie A Femminile at present.

In that regard, Roma are close to sealing their first Champions League qualification, so the season has been a success as its business end approaches. There could be lots to look forward to – but for now, a cup final in May is a guarantee.
