Roma have completed the signing of Evan Ndicka on a free transfer as their second acquisition of summer 2023.
The centre-back has joined Roma after a five-year spell in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt, with whom he won the Europa League in 2022.
Prior to his 183 appearances for Eintracht, Ndicka began his career with Auxerre, spending two seasons in the French second tier.
Now, he is embarking on his first experience of Italian football with Roma, where he has signed a contract until 2028.
Ndicka will wear the number five shirt last occupied by Matias Vina in the 2021-22 season.
The new addition told the club’s official website: “The way that the project was explained to me along with this club’s history and prestige made me want to come to Rome, which is a fantastic city that loves and lives for football.
“I can’t wait to take to the Olimpico pitch in front of my new supporters and make my contribution towards achieving our objectives.”
Ndicka, 23, is the second star Roma have signed for free this summer after the recent confirmation of Houssem Aouar becoming a Giallorossi player.
Like Aouar, Ndicka was born in France (for whom he played up to under-21 level) but has recently opted to represent a different country on the international stage – in his case, Ivory Coast. Due to a delay with his passport this month, the left-footer is still awaiting his debut for the Elephants.
Right now, he can focus on envisaging his future at Roma, whose general manager Tiago Pinto added: “Despite his young age, Evan is already a mature player with a wealth of experience from one of the most prestigious leagues and he also played a key role in his previous club’s European success.
“He was a particularly sought-after player on the international stage, so we’re thrilled that he has chosen Roma.”
