Roma confirm travelling party for Portuguese pre-season spell

Roma have confirmed the 25 players who have travelled to Portugal for the next phase of pre-season training.

New coach Jose Mourinho has taken his squad back to his home country as they step up their preparations for the season ahead.

So far, Roma have won all four of their friendlies under Mourinho, but they will face sterner opposition in Europe, beginning with his former club Porto.

As the squad arrived in Portugal, the club announced which players had made the trip.

Bryan Cristante and Alessandro Florenzi, who represented Italy at Euro 2020, are still absent, despite some suggestions they would be included for this phase. It is likely that at least Cristante will team up with the squad upon their return to Rome.

Jordan Veretout and Riccardo Calafiori, who have been struggling with injuries in recent days, have both made the trip, so it seems their knocks were not too serious.

New signing Rui Patricio makes the journey to his native country after his first taste of action as a Roma player in the pre-season win over Debreceni. Mourinho remains hopeful that Granit Xhaka will be able to join the group if he signs from Arsenal, but fellow target Matias Vina is stuck in quarantine in Rome.

Of the squad from the first phase of pre-season, young goalkeeper Matteo Cardinali, Primavera defender Amir Feratovic and winger Ruben Providence have been cut. None of the group of players who have been training separately – such as Pedro and Javier Pastore – have been reintegrated.

Here is the squad list in full.
