One of the intermediaries involved with Edinson Cavani has revealed that Roma’s potential new owners are genuinely interested in the striker.
Former Napoli striker Cavani is a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. And with Roma looking to negotiate deals for free agents like Pedro and Jan Vertonghen to save costs, they have been linked with the Uruguayan star.
In all honesty, the news came as quite a shock when it first emerged. It did not seem clear how Roma would be able to afford Cavani’s wages, while the impact it would have on Edin Dzeko was also a mystery.
However, there now seems to be something concrete behind the rumour.
Gaston Fernandez, one of Cavani’s intermediaries, has told Ovacion in Uruguay that Roma will make an offer if a takeover of the club goes through.
“They contacted me to send an official proposal to Cavani, to Walter Guglielmone [his agent],” he said. “And if that group definitively acquires Roma, they will want Edinson in the team.
“It will all depend on whether or not they will take over Roma because, although there are many advanced negotiations, it is not easy to buy a club of that prestige today.
“There are many things to keep in mind, but one of its priorities, if the activity becomes concrete, is to take Cavani.

“I made sure it was something serious and so I sent it to Guglielmone.
“They think the proposal is good, but as I said before, this does not mean that the signing of Edinson is definite, because first the group must close the purchase of Roma.”
