Gianluca Mancini has signed a contract extension with Roma until 2027, explaining his gratitude for his close bond with the club.
Currently serving as Roma’s vice-captain after showing leadership qualities, Mancini has been at the club since 2019. The former Atalanta man could therefore reach eight years of service to the club if he fulfils his new terms.
To date, Mancini has made 128 appearances for Roma, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. He has picked up 49 yellow cards, which has been one of the factors against his favour.
But despite a somewhat underwhelming 2021-22 campaign – in which he played 46 games and was booked 23 times – Roma retain their faith in the 26-year-old.
Their commitment together has therefore now increased beyond the previously scheduled expiry date of 2026.
Mancini told the club’s website: “To think that, brick by brick, I have slowly built such a close bond with this club, this city and these fans is an incredible feeling for me.
“Alongside the victory in the Europa Conference League, I see this new contract as a new starting point for us. Continuing to grow and improve, together as a group, is the sole objective I have in mind now.”
General manager, Tiago Pinto, added: “Over time Gianluca has carved out an important role for himself both on and off the pitch.
“He’s achieved that thanks to his willingness to sacrifice for others, a desire to never hide behind excuses and his own qualities as a leader.
“We know that he is a warrior on the pitch and we want to build from that attitude as we aim to continue making progress.”
Mancini notably provided the assist for the winning goal in the 2021-22 Europa Conference League final, which he will hope will not be his only medal with the club.
