Edin Dzeko once again faces a summer of uncertainty as his Roma contract approaches its final 12 months.
Dzeko has been one of Roma’s best ever strikers, rising to third in their all-time scoring charts. However, his future has regularly been in question.
Two years ago, he was a top target for Inter Milan. Then last year, he was close to joining Juventus.
Dzeko continues to prove his importance on the pitch, recently becoming just the fourth player ever – after Alessandro Del Piero, Filippo Inzaghi and Andriy Shevchenko – to score 30 European goals for a single Italian club. However, it seems he will once again be the focus of speculation in the summer.
The Bosnian is out of contract in 2022, so if Roma want to get any money from his exit, they may have to sell him. Dzeko is seeking his last major contract, but Roma may not be able to maintain his €7.5m salary.
Hence, according to Il Tempo, Dzeko could be sold as Roma look to reduce their squad size and average age.
The club have already been linked with a number of striker replacements. The ones mentioned by Il Tempo are Dusan Vlahovic and Andrea Belotti – both of whom were recently compared in a study of striker targets on Giallorossi Yorkshire.
It is not yet known who might be willing to buy Dzeko but two things are for certain – there will be plenty of interest and if he does leave, he will do so as a Roma legend.
