From the Giallorossi to Yorkshire? Florenzi attracts Leeds transfer interest

Leeds United are pondering a move for Roma full-back Alessandro Florenzi, according to reports.

Florenzi spent the second half of the 2019-20 season on loan at Valencia, in his first move away from Roma since his 2011 loan to Crotone.

There appears to be no space left for Florenzi to return to his boyhood club, though. Therefore, he could make a permanent exit this summer.

According to The Athletic‘s Phil Hay, one of the most trusted sources when it comes to Leeds United, Florenzi has a potential suitor in Yorkshire.

Hay claims that Leeds have cast their eyes towards Florenzi. The Whites have just gained promotion to the Premier League and are looking to bolster their squad.

Managed by Marcelo Bielsa, who once spent three days as Lazio’s head coach, Leeds are looking for versatile players to help their transition back to the English top flight.

Florenzi is certainly that, having featured as a full-back, winger or midfielder for Roma. However, Paulo Fonseca has struggled to find his best role, so he may be on his way out for good this summer.

The 29-year-old would prefer to stay in Italy, where Atalanta, Fiorentina and Claudio Ranieri’s Sampdoria could make offers.

However, Leeds are watching on, and while they are yet to bid, they could offer €18m for Florenzi’s signature.

The Rome-born player started the season as Giallorossi captain. However, he soon fell down the pecking order under Fonseca.

His loan to Valencia brought 12 La Liga appearances. Roma have him under contract until 2023, but could cash in on him this summer.

If Leeds firmed up their interest and actually signed Florenzi, he would become just the third player ever to represent both clubs. John Charles and Olivier Dacourt are the only other players to have done so.
