Agent discusses Darboe future after Roma debut

The agent of Ebrima Darboe said the midfielder’s future is yet to be decided after he made his senior debut for Roma.

One of the most promising members of the Roma academy, Darboe’s story is inspirational. He arrived in Italy as a teenage migrant from The Gambia without his parents, and has been a Primavera player in the Italian capital since 2019.

After making his first-team bow in the defeat to Sampdoria on Sunday, his agent Giorgio Gherardi talked up his qualities.

“It wasn’t the best match to debut in give the result,” Gherardi told Tuttomercatoweb, “but we are very happy. The impact was positive and the feedback from the club was too. He had been waiting for this moment for some time.”

Darboe’s representative then went on to compare him to a member of the senior Roma midfield.

“He has similar characteristics to [Amadou] Diawara, perhaps a little more offensive,” he said. “They are still incomparable but he is a very appreciated guy.”

With little left to play for in the remaining four matches of the Serie A season, Darboe could potentially get some more chances. It is not clear how long Diawara will miss, but Jordan Veretout is seemingly out for the season and Gonzalo Villar has joined the treatment room.

Beyond that, the next step for Darboe’s development remains unclear.

“He still has two years of contract,” Gherardi explained, “but he is very appreciated by many clubs, especially abroad. We have met with Roma. We will see next month what path to take – if he stays or goes on loan to find better continuity.”
