Roma Women are back in action for the first time in three weeks as they host Fiorentina on Saturday.
Roma headed into the break on the back of a three-game unbeaten run. However, they are returning to action later than expected, after last week’s cup game against Roma CF was postponed.
Hence, the focus switches back to the league, in which Roma are in fifth place. Their opponents Fiorentina, who were second last season when the league stopped, are one place behind them in sixth.
Previous meetings between the two clubs have been evenly balanced. To date, half of the six games between Roma and Fiorentina have ended as draws. The Giallorosse have only one win against the Florence-based side though, so will be hoping to balance that record further.
Roma will be without Kaja Erzen for the game, after the full-back tested positive for Covid-19. Therefore, Angelica Soffia and Elisa Bartoli will likely occupy either side of defence.
In midfield, Andressa Alves and Manuela Giugliano are both in contention to make their 20th appearances for the club.
Fiorentina lost three games in a row before their most recent game ended in victory. However, they remain challengers for the highest places, and have a dangerous attack.
Daniela Sabatino has already scored six goals in six games this season, while they also have former Roma striker Martina Piemonte – who is celebrating her birthday today – and Scotland forward Lana Clelland among their ranks.
Roma remain unbeaten on home turf in 2020 so far, and with this being their penultimate game of the calendar year at Stadio Tre Fontane, they will be hoping to move one step closer to completing that record.
In fact, the only team to score against Roma as an away team this season was today’s visitors. Fiorentina claimed a 2-2 draw on their last visit, but Roma will be hoping to claim all three points this time.
The game kicks off at 11:30am UK time and will be available to watch on Roma TV.
