Edin Dzeko bids farewell to Roma with post admitting to contrasting emotions

Edin Dzeko has posted a farewell message to Roma admitting his contrasting emotions about leaving the club for Inter Milan.

After six years, Roma’s third highest scorer of all time has departed to join last season’s champions. While many expected Dzeko to leave, the timing has caught some by surprise on the eve of the season.

He went from an exciting, experienced signing to a club legend over the course of six years, which were filled with highs and lows.

But he asked the club to let him join Inter, where he will replace Romelu Lukaku, whose move to Chelsea will push Tammy Abraham to Roma in a striker merry-go-round.

After scoring in his first friendly appearance for Inter, before the transfer had even been announced, Dzeko has looked back and opened up on his exit with a post on social media.

He wrote: “Goodbye Roma, after six years the time to say farewell has arrived.

“These are days in which I feel contrasting emotions. From one side, I am charged for the new adventure that awaits me, from the other I feel a great lump in the throat for that which I am leaving.

“I know very well that a simple thank you cannot be enough to explain my gratitude towards the Giallorossi fans, AS Roma and the Eternal City.

“I have lived extraordinary years in the capital that I will never forget. On the pitch and off. The challenges in the league, the Derbies, the Champions League nights, the goals. I am honoured to have worn the captain’s armband and to have made the fans rejoice 119 times, but at the same time I am sorry not to have gifted them the joy of a trophy lifted to the sky.

“For six years I have worn this shirt with pride, fighting in victory and defeat together with my teammates, my coaches, to everyone that has been and is part of the club, together with the fans that are a fundamental part of what for me has been a family.

“I thank all the people that have helped me and my wife Amra in this splendid adventure and I thank this city that has seen our three children be born and grow up.

“You will all always have a special place in my heart.

“Thank you Roma.”
