Roma have completed the signing of Portugal international goalkeeper Rui Patricio from Wolves as the first recruit of the Jose Mourinho era.
The goalkeeper position was one of Romaโs main priorities for the summer and they have acted quickly to get a deal in place. It took slightly longer than expected, but a fee of โฌ11.5m plus bonuses has been agreed with Wolves and the move became complete after a successful medical on Tuesday.
Patricio has plenty of experience, having spent the past three seasons with Wolves and 12 years before that with Sporting CP. He also has nearly 100 international caps for Portugal, with whom he won Euro 2016 and featured at this summerโs follow-up edition.
The 33-year-old has now signed a three-year contract with Roma. He will wear the number one shirt.
Patricio told the club website: โRoma is a big club and a new challenge and Iโm excited to try and help the club achieve its targets.
โIn Jose Mourinho we are talking about one of the greatest coaches in the world and I am excited to start working with him and doing everything I can to help the team.โ
General manager Tiago Pinto added: โRui Patricio brings with him a huge amount of success with the Portuguese national team and a number of successful seasons in the Premier League in which he only underlined his quality.
โAs we welcome him to the club we are certain that our group of players will benefit from the arrival of a goalkeeper with such an array of international experience to call upon.โ
Benvenuto, Rui.
