Less than 24 hours after the appointment of Jose Mourinho, rumours are already circling about the kind of players he might attract to Roma.
Few thought Roma could compete for a manager of this stature, so it has led to anticipation that they might be able to compete for bigger names in the transfer market too.
One of the priorities for Mourinho will be to find a reliable goalkeeper after both Pau Lopez and Antonio Mirante encountered issues this season. Speculation has already begun about who may fill the void.
According to Corriere Della Sera, Roma could be contenders to sign David De Gea on loan from Manchester United.
De Gea is no longer the guaranteed number one at Old Trafford, despite starting the first leg of the Europa League semi-final between United and Roma. Dean Henderson has competed with him in the Premier League this season and De Gea is likely to move on to somewhere he would be the outright first choice.
Mourinho previously worked with him in some of his best years with United, so could consider a reunion.
Whether Roma would be able to afford his wages is another question, but by taking him on loan, there could be some kind of agreement in the middle ground.
Or, this may just be mere speculation, with there not being much way to know who Mourinho will want yet. But at least the story represents the transformative impact the new boss could have in terms of the players Roma will be linked with.
