Davide Zappacosta has expressed his thanks to Roma after his campaign with the club ended.
Zappacosta joined Roma last summer, on loan from Chelsea for the 2019-20 season. However, he suffered a serious injury in training towards the start of the campaign, at which point he had only played 12 minutes for the club.
The right-back returned to action in the New Year and started three games after the resumption of the sport following lockdown – against Milan, Napoli and Juventus.
However, he has not been included in Roma’s squad for the rest of the Europa League.
With his time at the club possibly over, Zappacosta took to Twitter to thank those around him for their support in a difficult year.
He wrote: “Ciao Roma! These have been tough months, for all of us.
“I would like to thank the board, my teammates and everyone else I’ve met here.
“A special thanks to the medical staff, the physiotherapists and the guys who helped me recover from a terrible injury.
“Grazie Roma!”
Ciao Roma!

Zappacosta faces a similar fate to that of Chris Smalling. The English centre-back will also not take part in the Europa League after his loan from Manchester United – a spell which has brought plenty of good memories.
The duo may have a chance to return to Roma in the future, however.
Roma CEO Guido Fienga suggested on Tuesday that the club “would be honoured to be able to count on them again”, but only “if the conditions are right”.
