Women’s Champions League draw: Roma to visit Glasgow City

Roma have discovered their first ever Women’s Champions League opponents after the draw was made on Friday – and it will involve a trip to British shores.

After finishing second in Serie A Femminile last season, Roma have qualified for Europe for the first time. To get to the group stage of the Champions League, they must pass two rounds of qualifying.

First, they are drawn into a group of four, in which the teams will be split into two semi-finals, before the winners face off in a final to see who advances to the second round of qualification.

Then, there would be a two-legged knockout tie against another group winner to determine who progresses to the group stage.

Roma’s journey will start in the UK with a game against Glasgow City, before a final against the winners of Paris FC and Servette.

Glasgow City came second in the Scottish top-flight in the 2021-22 season, only losing one of their 27 league matches.

Paris FC came third in the French league, while Servette finished top of the Swiss league in the regular season, but their league goes to a play-off structure after, in which they lost the final on penalties.

It is sure to be an interesting journey for Roma. The semi-final in Glasgow will take place on Thursday 18th August, before either a third-place play-off if they lose, or a final if they win, three days later.
