The experienced midfielder will arrive on a free transfer to reunite with Jose Mourinho at a third club across their careers.

Marseille remain in hunt for Veretout

Sunday 5th June

One of the many midfielders who could leave Roma this summer is Jordan Veretout. Despite being their leading assist provider in 2021-22, his future is at risk.

A return to his native France is possible. In that regard, Corriere Dello Sport are continuing to link him with Marseille.

For a transfer to happen, Roma would reportedly be seeking a €15m windfall.

Florenzi close to permanent exit

Sunday 5th June

Alessandro Florenzi has not been wanted by Roma in recent years and spent the 2021-22 season on loan with AC Milan.

After winning the Scudetto there, the ex-Roma captain could make his move permanent.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Roma and Milan will soon meet to discuss Florenzi’s future. It is looking likely that the champions will pay €4.5m to take him for good.

Serie A sides eye El Shaarawy

Sunday 5th June

About to enter the final year of his contract with Roma, Stephan El Shaarawy’s future is still to be determined.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Jose Mourinho must make a decision about the winger. Waiting to pounce if he is made available are Atalanta and newly promoted Serie A side Monza.

Roma to meet Bodo/Glimt for Solbakken

Sunday 5th June

Roma are trying to get closer to the signing of Ola Solbakken from Bodo/Glimt. The attacker is willing to make the move to Italy, but the two clubs must meet in the middle first.

In an effort to resolve the stalemate, Roma will reportedly meet the Norwegian side’s officials on Wednesday or Thursday, according to Tuttosport.

Roma in Senesi contact

Sunday 5th June

The main defender to be linked with Roma is left-footed Marcos Senesi. He played against the club for Feyenoord during the Europa Conference League final.

According to Il Romanista, Senesi’s father-agent has been in contact with Roma. There is an interest in a move to Serie A.

However, given his contract expires in 2023, Roma would not go above €10m for the Argentine.

Official: Robin Olsen leaves Roma

Saturday 4th June

A concrete development – and one that will be welcomed by most Roma fans. Robin Olsen has joined Aston Villa on a permanent basis, bringing an end to his four years with the club.

Mkhitaryan making way for Inter

Friday 3rd June

After three seasons, it is over. Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be leaving Roma when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Various respected sources, including Il Tempo, have outlined that Mkhitaryan has rejected Roma’s final attempt at tying him down to a new deal. Instead, he has chosen to join Inter Milan ahead of the new season.

Roma will now have to work out how to replace one of their most dependable players. Mario Gotze is a new link, per Calciomercato, while there has been plenty of talk about Isco.

Depending on formations, though, Roma may take the opportunity to sign two central midfielders, rather than one defensive and one attacking.

Roma to listen to Zaniolo offers?

Friday 3rd June

Amid all the talk of signings, some current players may need to be sacrificed. And Sky Sport have a major update surrounding Nicolo Zaniolo.

They suggest Roma will listen to offers for the attacking midfielder. That said, a deal must be for the right price.

The asking price would be €50m. In turn, Zaniolo would prefer to remain in Italy, where Milan and Juventus are linked.

Milan have already been tipped to put players on the table in return. For example, Il Messaggero have suggested Ante Rebic as a counterpart.

Some of the rumours about Zaniolo have since been discredited. But every player has a price, so he will be one to keep an eye on.

Celik chosen in right-back pursuit

Friday 3rd June

One of the main names being tipped to join Roma at right-back is Zeki Celik. On that front, there seems to have been some progress.

According to La Nazione, Roma may even have submitted a €10m offer to Lille for the Fiorentina target.

Corriere Dello Sport also confirm Roma have chosen Celik as their target, with talks underway.

Paredes return talk grows

Friday 3rd June

There have been rumours of former Roma academy player Davide Frattesi rejoining the club this summer. But another midfielder who could come back to Trigoria is Leandro Paredes.

Sold in 2017 by Monchi, the Argentine is now a PSG player. Yet that may not be the case for much longer. Reports indicate he is set to be sold by the French champions.

According to a few sources, such as Leggo and Corriere Dello Sport, Roma are thinking of bringing back Paredes. Only under contract in Paris until 2023, he would cost less than €20m.

Alternatively, Roma could spend big on the quality midfielder they need. In the running are Ruben Neves, per both sources, who could cost €40m, and Yves Bissouma. Douglas Luiz continues to be linked, too.

State of play with Solbakken

Thursday 2nd June

One of Roma’s long-term targets for this summer is Ola Solbakken, who impressed against them for Bodo/Glimt in the 2021-22 Europa Conference League.

According to Il Romanista, Roma have long had an agreement with the attacker. Now, they are negotiating with the Norwegians. Bodo/Glimt would like to keep him for their Champions League qualifiers in the summer, yet his contract expires in December.

Corriere Dello Sport are even more optimistic Roma will get their man. They say Solbakken is one step away from joining Roma. Both sources indicate he will be a replacement for Carles Perez, who now looks likely to return to Spain.

Interestingly, Corriere Dello Sport claim the state of play is similar with full-back Zeki Celik. Roma reportedly have convinced the player – whose contract expires in 2023 – but are now working on an arrangement with Lille.

Transfer window preview

Wednesday 1st June

Welcome to the Giallorossi Yorkshire AS Roma transfer news blog for June 2022.

This summer, there will be a transfer blog for each month of the transfer window, beginning with this one.

The window is due to open on June 10th, but there are already some indications about the activity Roma may get up to.

In fact, one signing is already practically over the line. It has been known for some time that the club will be acquiring Mile Svilar to be a backup goalkeeper after Benfica release him.

The priority for Mourinho’s side remains to strengthen in midfield. They are also on the lookout for a centre-back (probably left-footed), a right-back to compete with Rick Karsdorp, and an additional attacker to support Tammy Abraham.

For the midfield role, the main names to have been linked so far include Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa, Nemanja Matic of Manchester United, Sassuolo’s Maxime Lopez and the soon-to-be free-agent Xeka. But as you can see via this link, there are a plethora of Roma midfield targets.

It also remains to be seen whether Roma will activate their option to buy Sergio Oliveira from Porto. As things stand, it is unlikely unless Porto give them a discount.

At right-back, the main targets appear to be Diogo Dalot or Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Manchester United, or Zeki Celik of Lille.

The centre-back most likely to join could be Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord. Or Nacho, you never know.

And in attack, Roma are trying to convince Paulo Dybala to join them as a free agent after his Juventus contract ends. Ola Solbakken of Bodo/Glimt is also a key target, while there have been plenty of rumours about Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes.

In terms of outgoings, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is being targeted by Inter Milan for when his contract expires, unless Roma can extend his deal. Furthermore, it is worth keeping an eye on what happens with Nicolo Zaniolo, whose deal has two years left to run.

At risk of being sold are Amadou Diawara, Carles Perez and other fringe players, or those who have been out on loan. The likes of Felix Afena-Gyan and Ebrima Darboe could depart on such terms this time arohnd.

Plenty could happen in an exciting summer evolution at Trigoria. Keep visiting this page for all the important AS Roma transfer news in June 2022.
