Roma linked with Liverpool star Wijnaldum on potential free deal – report

Roma continue to be linked with high-profile players following the appointment of Jose Mourinho, with Georginio Wijnaldum being the latest option to emerge.

After attracting a manager of the highest calibre, Roma are looking to pair him with players of a similar stature. Some seem overly ambitious, but so would have Mourinho a few weeks ago.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Roma have joined the race for Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum. The Dutchman will be a free agent in the summer and has been heavily linked with Barcelona.

Inter Milan have also been suggested as a potential destination, but now Roma could rival them. Mourinho is fond of the player, who would bring experience and quality to the midfield.

Wijnaldum was linked with Roma in the past, and even with different people in charge, retains his appeal.

Whether Roma can afford his wages remains to be seen, but such a link is another sign of how things are already going in the right direction with Mourinho in charge.

Other options to strengthen the midfield would be Renato Sanches of Lille or Marcel Sabitzer of RB Leipzig. The newspaper even mentions Sassuolo’s in-demand star Manuel Locatelli as an option despite his €30m price tag.
