Ronaldo dream?

Sunday 19th June

They couldn’t, could they? One year after stunning the world by appointing one of the best managers of all time, Roma continue to be linked with one of the best players of all time.

Whispers about Cristiano Ronaldo leaving Manchester United to reunite with Mourinho in Rome seemed laughable at first. Indeed, they probably still do. But the increasing frequency with which they are appearing does make you wonder.

For example, Leggo are claiming Ronaldo is Roma’s real dream target for this summer. They claim there has been contact with the multiple Ballon d’Or winner.

Ronaldo could also choose to return to Sporting in Portugal, who have Champions League football on offer. But if he was to join Roma by June 30th, he would still benefit from Italy’s taxation laws.

Perhaps Roma could have another stunning announcement to come within 10 days or so – or we can put this one aside once and for all.

Amadou Diawara admits exit chance

Saturday 18th June

One of Roma’s forgotten men who could be sold this summer is midfielder Amadou Diawara.

He almost went to Valencia in January, but the arrangement collapsed for reasons he is not even sure of himself. Now, though – after reports he would be excluded from Roma’s pre-season – he has admitted he is ready to find a new opportunity.

Diawara has told AS that he wants to leave for a club where he can get more gametime, if other parties are willing to oblige.

Discrepancy over De Paul

Friday 17th June

One midfield suggestion made regarding Roma in recent hours has been that of Rodrigo De Paul. The Atletico Madrid man could return to Serie A after his previous spell with Udinese.

Leggo and Il Messaggero have both carried recent reports about Roma being interested in De Paul.

However, ReteSport have denied that he could be signed by the club. They point to his €40m asking price and inability to qualify for the growth decree taxation law for his wages.

Hence, Trigoria sources have supposedly ruled out the deal.

One alternative in midfield, according to Il Tempo, could be another Atletico man, Saul Niguez. He spent the season on loan at Chelsea but had little impact and is now seeking a new solution.

Fuzato close to Ibiza

Thursday 16th June

Aouar links grow

Thursday 16th June

Last week, it was revealed that Roma could have the chance to sign Houssem Aouar from Lyon for their midfield.

Supposedly, Roma have asked for information about the Frenchman. According to Il Messaggero, Lyon want €20m to sell him.

Contact claimed for Torreira

Thursday 16th June

Roma still need to strengthen their midfield and an opportunity may have emerged to take Lucas Torreira.

The midfielder spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Fiorentina from Arsenal, doing well upon his return to Serie A. However, Fiorentina did not want to pay an appropriate sum to the Premier League club, so the deal collapsed.

According to LaRoma24, Torreira’s entourage have since confirmed that Roma have been in contact with them and could be alternative buyers.

Milanese making Cremonese move

Thursday 16th June

Something of a forgotten figure after bursting onto the scene in late 2020, Tommaso Milanese spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan in Serie B with Alessandria.

His efforts for them have earned him a Serie A opportunity, although not with Roma. Instead, Sky Sport are reporting that he is close to a permanent move to Cremonese, who won promotion to the top-flight.

Roma have reached an agreement to sell Milanese, who will depart having only made three appearances for the first team.

Celik down to the details

Wednesday 15th June

Roma are certainly being proactive this summer in the transfer market. Another deal is reportedly close, this time for them to sign Zeki Celik from Lille.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, there is growing optimism that Roma will be able to sign the right-back. In fact, the two clubs could agree an €8m transfer fee this week.

A contract is waiting for the Turkey international, whom Nicolo Schira believes is even closer to joining Roma. The reporter claims he will agree terms until 2027, worth €2m per season.

Villar could make Getafe move permanent

Wednesday 15th June

One of the players who ended last season on loan away from Roma was Gonzalo Villar. The once-promising midfielder ended the campaign back in Spain with Getafe.

Now, Corriere Dello Sport are reporting that his move may become permanent. However, the La Liga outfit would want a discount on his price tag, as is becoming predictable in deals of this type.

Kalajdzic high on striker shortlist

Although Eldor Shomurodov is likely to stay at Roma this summer, the club are still looking for stronger competition to Tammy Abraham.

A deal for Bodo/Glimt forward Ola Solbakken has been desired, but the Norwegian club are being tricky to negotiate with. Roma may have to wait until he becomes a free agent in December.

In the meantime, a high-profile striker they are being linked with is Sasa Kalajdzic.

The tall Stuttgart hitman has been mentioned as a target recently by Gazzetta Dello Sport, who claim Roma are carrying out surveys ahead of a potential move. It follows previous links of a similar nature by the likes of Sky Germany and Leggo.

Frattesi coming home this week

Monday 13th June

Midfield signing number one has arrived, with Nemanja Matic undergoing a medical on Monday. Midfield signing number two shouldn’t be that far behind.

According to Calciomercato, Roma are closing in on a deal to bring back Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo. In fact, his return could be completed by the end of the week.

Roma will pay €30m for his services, although 30% of that will come straight back to them due to a sell-on clause in the original operation. There is also a chance that young players like Felix Afena-Gyan, Cristian Volpato or Filippo Tripi could head in the opposite direction.

Sky Sport are also talking of an upcoming meeting between the club and Frattesi’s agent to make further progress on the deal. He is expected to be a replacement for Jordan Veretout.

Competition for permanent Oliveira deal

Monday 13th June

Roma had two players on loan in the 2021-22 season: Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sergio Oliveira. The Englishman has already been returned to sender, but the latter’s future is up for question.

Roma could keep the midfielder, but not by paying the full value of their option to buy. Hence, things are at a standstill in negotiations with Porto.

Meanwhile, A Bola claim that Oliveira’s preference is to keep working under Jose Mourinho. That said, there is now competition from Napoli and Valencia for his signature.
