Alessandro Florenzi has left boyhood club Roma once again, this time joining AC Milan on loan with an option for a permanent transfer.
Florenzi has endured two loan spells since his last appearance for Roma, including a six-month stint with Valencia in 2020 and then the 2020-21 season with PSG.
Despite the latter being relatively successful, PSG opted not to make his transfer permanent, instead buying Achraf Hakimi from Inter and leaving Florenzi in need of a different solution.
He never reported back for pre-season with Roma after winning Euro 2020 with Italy and will now spend the season with Milan instead.
In his introductory press conference with Milan, he said: “Roma decided to put me aside despite having returned as a European champion. But I think the choice was made around two to three years ago already.
“I accepted this choice, having already accepted it two years ago despite not being favourable to it, since everybody knows I’m a Roma fan. It’s no secret.
“Roma made their choice two years ago. Let’s say it was a technical choice although I don’t think it was just that. I think there’s more to it.”

Milan will thus become the first other Serie A side Florenzi has represented in his career after making 280 appearances for Roma. Although he spent some time as club captain, he fell out of favour in a previous regime and will continue his career elsewhere as Roma also enter a new dawn.
