Roma rely on youth as Volpato and Bove snatch point vs Verona

Primavera products Cristian Volpato and Edoardo Bove scored their first senior Roma goals in a 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona.

Roma’s wait to return to winning ways continues, but it could have been worse. Indeed, they fell 2-0 down inside the opening 20 minutes to goals from Antonin Barak and Adrien Tameze.

With several senior squad members missing, Jose Mourinho turned to youth from his bench. Volpato was sent on in the 62nd minute and scored three minutes later with an arrowed finish.

Then, six minutes from time, Bove – himself only six minutes into the action – cancelled out the deficit by curling in at the near post to earn his side a point.

Drama followed in stoppage time when Mourinho was expelled from the touchline, but the final result was what mattered. It was not the win Roma were hoping for, but was a better result than they may have been expecting after how the game began.
