Five facts after another 6-0 win for Roma Women, this time against Napoli

Roma Women made it 10 wins out of 10 for the 2023-24 season so far by thrashing Napoli on Saturday upon their return to Serie A Femminile action.

After racing into a four-goal lead by half time, Roma went on to win 6-0 to maintain their perfect record so far this season and send a statement against their next Coppa Italia opponents too after their progress in that competition in midweek.

Here are some things you might find interesting in the wake of the latest win.

Di Guglielmo doubles best scoring season

Recently, Lucia Di Guglielmo became the first Roma Women defender to ever score a brace for the club. Surprisingly, she was at it again on Saturday.

Di Guglielmo scored the second and fifth goals of the match, which were her first goals of the domestic campaign after her previous brace came in the Champions League.

The full-back has now doubled her best ever goalscoring season for Roma, having only ever hit two before in her debut campaign in the capital.

Valdezate opens account for club

Another defender on the scoresheet – and the first player overall – was Oihane Valdezate.

As Moeka Minami was left out of the starting lineup for the first time in the league this season, summer signing Valdezate was selected at centre-back alongside Elena Linari.

Subsequently, on her fifth appearance for the club, Valdezate scored her first goal in Italian football.

Kramzar earns first league start of season

After becoming the third Roma Women player to ever score a hat-trick in midweek, it only seemed fair for Zara Kramzar to get a starting opportunity on Saturday.

This time operating in midfield, she was given her first league start of the season by Alessandro Spugna after four previous cameos off the bench.

And she scored again as well to make it four for the season, matching her 2022-23 tally in 10 fewer games (eight compared to 18).

Identical consecutive results

The 6-0 scoreline was exactly the same as the one Roma had knocked Cesena out of the Coppa Italia with a few days before. Back on their own turf, this was their biggest home win of the season so far after Wednesday’s biggest away win.

The last time two consecutive Roma results were the same was in December 2022, when they lost 4-2 to Wolfsburg and Juventus.

In terms of two consecutive wins of the same scoreline, the last instance was in October 2022, when there was a hat-trick of 1-0 wins against Sassuolo, Slavia Prague and Como.

Longest winning run

What a start to the title defence it has been. Roma have overcome everything that has been thrown at them so far as they enjoy their reign as champions – with their form also extending to cup competitions too.

The run of 10 wins in a row is a club record, eclipsing the nine in a row achieved last autumn.

It is Bayern Munich up next in the Champions League, which may be the biggest threat to Roma losing their 100% record for the season so far, but the important thing is to keep setting the pace – especially in a league where they want to retain their title.
