Vanessa Bernauer has signed a contract extension to remain a Roma Women player for the 2021-22 season.
Part of the squad ever since their formation in 2018, Bernauer is Roma’s most experienced midfielder and was one of their most dependable performers last season.
The Swiss international scored the winning penalty in the Coppa Italia final to contribute to an important chapter in club history.
She could have gone out on a high note and there had been some murmurs that she might, but instead she will seek to retain those levels as she commits to Roma for another season.
“I am delighted to renew my contract, and to wear this shirt for a fourth season,” she told the club website.
“By winning the Coppa Italia last season we achieved something historic, in an historic match, one where I was lucky enough to score the decisive penalty. It was a result that we had worked so hard to achieve.
“The story is not over, however, and as a team we now need to focus on the new targets that we want to be celebrating with the club and our fans next season. Daje Roma!”
Bernauer has 59 appearances and seven goals to her name for Roma, making her the team’s joint-fifth most-used player in their brief history.
